Definition: To Confess (Collins Concise Dictionary) – to admit a fault or truth, to declare one’s sins, to come clean.
Why Confess/ Benefits of confession:
- For forgiveness – 1 John 1:9
- For Blessing – Ps 32:1-2
- For Healing - James 5:16
- For protection – Ps 32:7
- For prosperity – Pro. 28:13
Consequences of not confessing:
- Torture of conscience, body, peace and prosperity. – Ps 32:3-4
- Lack of prosperity/progress - Pro28:13
- God forgets you – Lev. 26:40-44
- You die in shame - Acts 5:1-10
Things that stop us from confessing:
- Fear of People - John 12:42
- Position/Pride – Pro. 16:18
- Enjoyment of the sin – Pro. 9: 17-18
- Fear of Becoming a castaway – 1Tim 4:2
How to confess: Ps 32:5, Pro. 16:20
- Acknowledge,
- Be prepared/willing to expose,
- Confess,
- Accept forgiveness.
When to confess:
- Immediately - Matt 5:23-26
- When times are hard - Neh. 1:6-9
- Before it’s too late – Ps 32:6
Who to confess to:
- The Lord – Ps 32:5
- Your wife/husband/friend – Jonah 1:1-17
- Your pastor - Lev. 5:5-6, Acts 5:1-10
- Any person you sinned against – Matt 5:23-26
