Light for Today
LET
YOUR WILL BE
And he said, Abba, Father, all things
are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I
will, but what thou wilt.
Mark 14:36
It can be difficult at times for us to really
want to do what we know to be the will of God for us. This is especially true
if we are bent on dong our own thing. If we live in the flesh, doing the will
of the Lord could be really difficult
In John 4:34, we hear him say, “My meat is to
do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Throughout the four gospels,
we see him constantly overcoming “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye,
and the pride of life” He has always lived purposefully, toward his goal of
dying for the world. Remember Jesus knew his mission thoroughly. Yet at one
time, he was overwhelmed to the point of death. He cried” Father, if thou be
willing, remove this cup from me, yet not my will, but thine be done.” What
intensity of soul sorrow might have gone on in him so much so he could pray
such a prayer? The good news however is that, the wanted the will of God to be
done in his life.
Truly it may be difficult to lay our wills
down and take the will of God; but in the example that our lord gave, it is made
possible for us to say “have my will Lord. In him we have the grace to lay our
wills down. May you receive that Grace today.
Lord Jesus, I find it hard to give my will to
you sometimes even I know deep down it is the right thing for me to do. Lord
please help me to for it is you who causes us both to will and to do of you
good pleasure. Lord let your will be done in my life.
Enjoy your day and remember, we love you!
