Light for Today
Are You Ashamed Of Me?
.We hid as it were our faces from him. He
was despised, and we esteemed him not”
Isaiah
53:3
The story is told of this woman who was
doing all she can
to bring her only daughter up single handedly. She had seen her through to the
high school level; she had successfully completed and was now expecting her
results.
One sunny
Saturday afternoon, the mother was tidying up their surroundings, getting ready
to start cooking, when her daughter had a visitor. The daughter then took a
seat with the visitor and sat at a distant a stone throw from the mother.
While the
mother cooked, she would send the daughter when she needed some thing to be
done until she finished. All this time the visitor and her daughter were in
serious chats about all sorts of things.
Later,
that afternoon, the daughter noticed that her mother’s countenance had changed
and she was eager to know if all was okay with her.
After
persisting for a while, her mother asked her a question which confused her and
got her worried. She asked her if she the daughter knew how come she the mother
was so much disfigured. Upon responding no, the mother began a story.
She said,
long ago when you were but a baby and could not do anything
for yourself, our house caught fire. It was so bad I run out of the room. Then
I remembered I had left you behind in the room. But all of a sudden, I ran back
in to room to bring you out. By that time however, the fire was almost beyond
control. So I took a blanket and wrapped it around you, and jumped out of the
room through the fire. That resulted into my scarred face and body, which you
are now ashamed of. When you were talking to your friend, she asked who I was, and
you said I was the house keeper, and that you are even ashamed of my looks. I look
this terrible so that you may look this beautiful. If it had not been my love
for you, I too could have been a lot more beautiful than you know me to be now.
Are you
ashamed you are a Christian? Do you feel reluctant to tell somebody you belong to
Jesus Christ when the opportunity comes? Do you even know why you are a Christian?
“Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and
of my words in this adulterous and sinful
generation; of him shall also the son of man be ashamed when he cometh
in the glory of his father with the holy angels”
THINK ABOUT IT
Enjoy your day and remember, we love you!
